MyPaint - a graphics App for N900

There is a new release for a very powerful app for N900: MyPaint

"MyPaint is a fast and easy open-source graphics application for digital painters. It lets you focus on the art instead of the program. You work on your canvas with minimum distractions, bringing up the interface only when you need it."

this app has following features:

  • - exists for several platforms
  • - supports pressure sensitive graphics tablets
  • - extensive brush creation and configuration options
  • - unlimited canvas (you never have to resize)
  • - basic layer support

MyPaint comes with a large brush collection including charcoal and ink to emulate real media, but the highly configurable brush engine allows you to experiment with your own brushes and with not-quite-natural painting. Before beginning it is a good idea to read the quick-start tutorial to see how the program is meant to be used. You can also visit the MyPaint Wiki.

This is a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet paint program. It comes with a large brush collection including charcoal and ink to emulate real media, but the highly configurable brush engine allows you to experiment with your own brushes and with not-quite-natural painting.

Mypaint upgrade 0.8.2 released

here are the changes according to this changelog

  • - fix regression in 0.8.1 causing temporary layers to stick
  • - complain about unsupported pygtk version

watch here the video about MyPaint:

you can download MyPaint from Maemo Extras-Devel or here and use it for yourself, but please read the tutorial first :-)

UPDATE:

when you install MyPaint from Maemo Extras_Devel, there could be some issues. when you start the App it looks like it's crashed, but wait & don't panic: after ca. 20sec MyPaint is ready to rock :-)

Anders_gud posted a workaround, in case there are some troubles with MyPaint:

"Experimental (but very usable) Mypaint 0.8.2 packages are now in extras-devel thanks to Aapo.
enable extras-devel as described above...

  • as root
  • apt-get install mypaint mypaint-data python-support python-hildon python-osso

  • cd /usr/lib/
  • ln -s libblas.so.3gf libblas.so
  • ln -s liblapack.so.3gf.0 liblapack.so

should do it...
Issues:
Fremantle UI not feature complete yet, and maybe some small bugs. I recommend it highly though...
And as always - disable extras-devel when you are finished..."

this app is under heavy development. look here into the talk.maemo.org thread about MyPaint.
