InvenSense shows a new MotionProcessing Technology
Do you ever asked yourself in which direction the smartphones and other gadgets will be developed further to things like augmented reality or multi-touch screens?

there might be a hint for the next generation handsets and tablets, if you watch the video of InvenSense. there are so many use cases i can think of with this tiny piece of technology... :-)
Read here the official overview about the new Gyroscope:
"Motion processing promises to quickly become the next “must have” function in every handset. With unlimited functionality, motion processing technology can convert day-to-day ordinary handsets into powerful 3D intelligent devices that can help monitor everything from health to reporting your kid’s whereabouts. Handsets have pioneered adoption of new technologies since early on, such as high resolution color screens, built-in cameras, Bluetooth, WiFi, touch screens, and recently, motion processing. Motion processing, enabled by MEMS gyroscopes, will become the next “must-have” technology in the handset that promises a disruptive shift in how users interact with their phones. By adopting motion processing technology, mobile handsets will deliver advanced user experiences that leverage motion to enhance web and media navigation, and provide a range of capabilities including image stabilization, Location-Based Services (LBS), mobile gaming, health monitoring, and many other new applications. Key requirements for motion processing in handsets are small package size, low power consumption, high shock tolerance, and application specific performance programmability."
What is a MEMS Rate Gyroscope?
There are many forms of gyroscopes but inside of the Wii MotionPlus, there are chips that are used to measure the rate of rotation along all 3-axes of X (pitch), Y (roll), and Z (yaw). Inside the chip’s packages are Micro-Electromechanical systems (MEMS) that senses the user’s rotational movements with the Wii MotionPlus equipped remote.

"This video demo from InvenSense features the MPU-3000™, a revolutionary MEMS-based motion processing technology for next generation mobile handset. The MPU-3000 combines the worlds first 3-axis gyroscope with an embedded digital motion processor designed exclusively for mobile handsets to enable sophisticated features such as MotionCommand™, TouchAnywhere™, and AirSign™ in smartphones.

i'd like to see the next gen smartphones with this chip, because we can move towards next designs away from the IPhone look-a-like and we won't need a touchscreen either. even low entry phones or gadgets could handle f.e. augmented reality, too :-)
