Computex: Tablets parade on Moorestown with MeeGo OS
chippy from carrypad.com and the folks from engadet.com had their chance to see the very early stage, but quite fast tablet: Quanta Redvale tablet. tommorow chippy will show us some news about the Wistron W1. all these tablets have two main things in common: Intel Moorestown platform and the new MeeGo OS.

i think, all the upcoming tablets are just imitating the look of the iPad, whis is quite nice, but the others seems not have any different ideas for that :-(
Quanta Redvale tablet:
The tablet version of MeeGo is built on the same underlying software as the netbook version, but the interface is drastically different. There are two basic areas of the OS -- the simple and panel mode. The simple mode is a basic grid of applications, while the panel mode is a series of vertical panes that can be customized with pictures, social networking feeds, and web bookmarks. The latter was quite impressive as it will be entirely user customizable. We also caught that Intel's AppUp store was preloaded, but we were told that there will be a separate SDK released this August for developing multitouch applications.

On the hardware front, the 1.5GHz Moorestown chip seemed to be super snappy and we witnessed it play a 720p clip smoothly. The actual 10-inch Quanta Redvale tablet was incredibly thin and light, but the viewing angles of the reference design's screen were poor to say the least. However, the resistive panel was very responsive to taps on the screen and pinching to zoom. Despite the pre-alpha label we have to say we were very impressed with what Intel is up to here - it's all looking polished and very simple to navigate.
Wistron W1:

The most interesting was, of course, the thinnest device which apparently runs on Moorestown with MeeGo which means, this is a smart slate. E.g. Always-on. Obviously with MeeGo it will compete in the consumer space and it’s totally obvious that this bouncing off the iPad hype. I can’t wait to see it because if they include AppUp, it becomes a more complete product than most of the Android slates we’ve seen so far. Expect to see the MeeGo handheld UI experience demonstrated tomorrow in the ultra-mobility presentation. We might even see it at the keynote this afternoon.
the actual devices won't be on the streets until early 2011.
looks like MeeGo will be everywhere :-)
